Typical Applications: Rehabilitating or enlarging sewer or utility lines.

Description: Pipe bursting is the most effective way of taking out a smaller water or sewer line and replacing it with one that is slightly larger. In this technique, a new pipe is secured to a pipe bursting tool that uses air pressure to break up the old pipe sending fragments into the surrounding soil as it simultaneously drags the larger replacement pipe into place. Watertight fittings are then installed at lateral connections to minimize inflow and filtration.

Limitations: Established pipes must be of a fractural material (iron, clay, cement).

Considerations:

 Follows existing pipe path
 Preferred technology for upsizing pipes
 Reduces excavation and restoration costs
